Mission

Allah The Most High said in the Qur'an,

" Do they not ponder the Qur'an or are their hearts locked up?"

This noble ayah signifies our mission at the Arabic Institute here at Dar- us- Salaam. It is our mission to equip you, the eager Arabic student with the essential tools, tips, instruction and methods of learning that will enable you to read the Qur'an and understand it as it was revealed- in the Arabic tongue. No longer can we suffice ourselves with translations of the Book of Allah, the Ahadith of the Messenger of Allah 'sallahu alaihi was sallam' and the classical works of the Scholars when the opportunity presents itself for us to learn the classical Arabic in our own backyard. At the Arabic institute, you won't be learning how to order food at an Arab restaurant or how to reserve a hotel room in an Arab country. You will absorb the Arabic language through classes designed for you to understand Arabic in Arabic.

Goals and Objectives

  1. To learn essential Arabic vocabulary that is commonly used in both the Qur'an as well as in conversations and daily usage. On average, in any given level of the eight levels that we offer here at AlSalik, you can expect to learn about 300-400 new words, not to mention their opposites and plurals.
  2. To learn the essential grammar rules that one must have in order to properly understand the Qur'an and common speech.
  3. To learn the proper usage of verbs in order to understand their various shades of meaning, as well as to employ Arabic-English dictionaries with ease.
  4. To practice what is leaned of the above by written and verbal exercises that will allow the student to become comfortable with the Arabic language.
  5. To engage in reading and listening drills that will refine the vocabulary usage and grammar rules that have been learned so that the student will see the Arabic language in action.

What will you achieve after going through the Eight Levels

After having gone through the eight levels of Al-Salik (approximately 2 years), insha Allah you will have finished the grammar taught at the Arabic language program in Imam Saud University (in other words, the Ma'had or IIASA in VA).  In addition to that, you will have equipped yourself with tools that will help you understand a major portion of the Qur'an, insha Allah.

Description of Levels
