Information about the Qur'an Institute

 

Virtues of Reading and Memorizing Qur'an:

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
"Verily the best amongst you are the ones who learns Qur'an and teaches it"


Special Virtues for Kids and their parents:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
"Whoever reads the Qur'an and acts upon what is in it, his parents will be dressed in a crown on the day of Judgment, whose light will be better than the light of the sun if it were in the houses of this world, so what do you think the reward of the  person be who would (actually) act upon it? (meaning the reward of the child)"

(Narrated by Abu Dawood, Hadeeth 1241)

 

Age Requirement for Children:

 The Quran Institute will be accepting applicants in the kids session from ages 4 and above. Parents of students who are under 4 years of age should e-mail quran@alhuda.org to get special permission before filling out the form.

 

Sections for Different Age Groups:

 The Quran Institute Educational Program is divided into three sections based on age groups. The age group for the first section ranges from 4 to 7 years of age. The second section comprises of ages 8 through 14. The third group consists of children aged 15 and above. The curriculum layout may vary for each age group.

 

Curriculum Layout for Each Section:

Section 1: Children's Ages 4-7

Section 2: Children Ages 8-14

Section 3: Children/Adult Ages 15 and Above 

 

Section1: Curriculum Layout Children Ages 4 through 7:

Section 1 is divided into seven different levels.  Following is a brief description and curriculum outline for each of these levels.  These levels are offered based on demand.  The minimum number of students to start a level is 5.

Level 1A:

  • Identify all the letters of the alphabet in order and out of order
  • Identify any given letter among a group of letters (e.g. find the aalif in this group of letters)

 

Level 1B:

  • Identify every letter in its connected form
  • Identify letters when in different forms in the beginning, middle and end of a word
  • Read all the letters in any given word
  • Distinguish which letters do not connect (alif, daal, dhaal, raa, zaa, waw)
  • Read Huroof al-Muqatta’ah (Alif Lam Meem, Ta Ha, etc.)


Level 2:

  • Identify the harakat and correctly pronounce the sounds they make
  • Read each letter with the different harakat
  • Fluently read words with harakat on them


Level 3:

  • Identify the different tanween (fat-hatayn, kasratayn, dammatayn) and the sounds they make
  • Distinguish between harakaat and tanween (i.e. the difference between fat-ha and fat-hatayn)
  • Read all the letters of the alphabet with tanween
  • Read words with harakat and tanween
  • Identify Huroof al-Madd and their rules
  • Read words with Huroof al-Madd


Level 4:

  • Identify sukoon and the rule of sukoon
  • Identify Huroof al-Leen and its ruling
  • Read words with Huroof al-Leen
  • Distinguish between the rulings of Huroof al Madd and Huroof al-Leen
  • Correctly pronounce each letter of the alphabet with a sukoon (ab, at, ath, aj, etc.)
  • Read words with sukoon in the beginning, middle, or end


Level 5:

  • Identify shaddah and its ruling
  • Read each letter with a shaddah on it (abba, atta, ajja)
  • Read words with shaddah in the beginning, middle, and end of the word
  • Read words that combine sukoon and shaddah (wash-shamsy, mat-taariqu)
  • Read words that combine madd and shaddah (daaalleena)


 Level 6:

  • Students will connect different words together to form Ayaat and practice reading groups of words
  • Students will conduct timed readings from the Mus-haf so they can improve their reading fluency (few lines many times, many lines fewer times)


Level 7:

  • Improve their accuracy by reading a given part of the Mus-haf repeatedly
  • Read any given part of the Mus-haf with accuracy
  • Students will independently review and memorize from the Qur’aan.

 

 

Section 2: Curriculum Layout Children Ages 8 through 14:

Section 2 is divided into four different levels.  Following is a brief description and curriculum outline for each of these levels.  These levels are offered based on demand.  The minimum number of students to start a level is 5.

Level 1:

Section 3 is divided into five different levels.  Following is a brief description and curriculum outline for each of these levels.  These levels are offered based on demand.  The minimum number of students to start a level is 5.

Level 1:

Overview:

This level is dedicated to teach students the basics of reading Arabic.  Students will be taught Arabic letters in their different shapes, Harakaat (diacritics) and other concepts that are needed to connect letters together to form words.  At the same time, the teacher will help students read, memorize and briefly understand some of the short Surahs of the Qur’an that could be recited in Salaah. 

Curriculum Outline:

  • Entire book of Al-Qaa’edah An-Nooraaniyyah
  • Basic rules of Tajweed and reading (Noon and Meem Mushaddad, Huroof Al-Madd, Types of Laam, Types of Hamzah, Taa’ Marbootah etc…)
  • Reading/Memorization of Surat Al-Faatihah and Surat An-Naas through Surat Al-Feel.

 

Level 2:

Overview:

This level is dedicated to improving the reading fluency of students in reading the Qur’an from the Mus-haf.  Students will spend most of the time reading different parts of the Qur’an and memorizing some more of the short Surahs.   The basic reading rules that were taught in Level 1 will also be reviewed.

Curriculum Outline:

  • Practice reading from the Mus-haf by reading about half a Juz from Surat Al-Baqarah
  • Makhaarij Al-Huroof
  • Reading/Memorization from Surat Al-Humazah through Surat Al-‘Alaq.  Some meanings may be taught (based on time and level of class)


Level 3:

Overview:

Students in this level are expected to be reasonably fluent at reading.  This level will help students enhance their reading skills more.  Additionally some Tajweed rules will be taught along with their implementation.  Students will also read/memorize some more short Surahs from the Qur’an.

Curriculum Outline:

  • Following rules of Tajweed will be taught:
    o Makhaarij Al-Huroof
    o Some important Sifaat of letters (Qalqalah, Hams, Tafkheem, Tarqeeq)
    o Rules of Raa’ and Laam
    o Rules of Noon and Meem Mushaddad
    o Rules of Meem Saakin
  • Practice reading from the Mus-haf by reading about half a Juz from Surat Al-Baqarah
  • Reading/Memorization from Surat At-Teen through Surat Al-Balad with implementation of Tajweed rules taught.  Some meanings may be taught (based on time and level of class)

Level 4:

Overview:

Students in this level are expected to be reasonably fluent at reading.  This level will help students enhance their reading skills more.  Students should also know the Tajweed rules that are covered in level 3, along with their implementation in recitation.  Some more Tajweed rules will be taught in this level along with their implementation.  Students will also read/memorize some more short Surahs from the Qur’an.

Curriculum Outline:

  • Following rules of Tajweed will be taught:
    o Rules of Noon Saakin and Tanween
    o Rules of Madd
    o Different kinds of Idghaam
    o Some important Sifaat of letters (Qalqalah, Hams, Tafkheem, Tarqeeq)
    o Rules of Raa’ and Laam
    o Rules of Noon and Meem Mushaddad
  • Practice reading from the Mus-haf by reading about half a Juz from Surat Al-Baqarah
  • Reading/Memorization from Al-Fajr through Surat Al-Burooj with implementation of Tajweed rules taught.  Some meanings may be taught (based on time and level of class)


Level 5:

Overview:

Students in this level are expected to be reasonably fluent at reading.  This level will help students enhance their reading skills more and help them memorize more from the Qur’an.  Students should also know the Tajweed rules that are covered in level 3 and level 4, along with their implementation in recitation.   Students will memorize various portions of the Qur’an based on their current level.  Students in this class are expected to be highly self-disciplined and motivated, as this class will be taught on a one-on-one basis. 

Curriculum Outline:

  • Memorization of at least 1/3rd of a Juz during the semester with implementation of all Tajweed rules
  • Reading at least half Juz from the Qur’an (based on student’s level)
  • Some meanings may be taught (based on time and level of student)
