Purpose of Qur’an Programs

The purpose of our Qur’an Programs is to ensure that every Muslim in the community is able to read the Qur’an properly, with the proper pronunciation and rules of reading the Qur’an.  Through the Qur’an, Dar-us-Salaam hopes to further its mission of building a role model Muslim community.  Additionally, there is a Hadeeth of Ar-Rasool sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam stating, “Hold tight to it (the Qur’an) (all of you), (and if you do so then) you will never go astray.”

Structure

The Qur’an Programs prepare Muslims of all ages to memorize and understand the entire Qur’an.  Students first learn the basic skills of reading Qur’anic Arabic.  Once they have mastered the reading skills, they are guided through the memorization of the entire Qur’an.  We offer a variety of Qur’an classes in order to accommodate different schedules and needs.

The steps that a student takes at the Qur’an programs can be summarized in the following 5 steps:

1.    Step 1: Learn how to read Arabic letters, words, etc.

2.    Step 2: Learn how to read the Qur’an fluently and accurately

3.    Step 3: Practice memorization skills

4.    Step 4: Memorize the Qur’an, review

5.    Step 5: Become a Hafizh Insha Allah

History

The Qur’an Programs formally began at Dar-us-Salaam in 1999, with a few adult students attending part-time Qur’an classes.

In 2000, we added a children’s section, where the children were taught how to read the Qur’an, and some of them started memorizing it as well.

In 2001, we added a part-time Hifzh Program for those students who had learned how to read the Qur’an and were ready to memorize the Qur’an.

In 2002, realizing that memorizing the entire Qur’an needs full-time efforts, we added a full-time Hifzh School, particularly for students who had memorized a few Juz from the Qur’an in the part-time Hifzh Program.

Results

By the mercy of Allah, the Qur’an Programs have grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years.

  • The Qur’an Institute – a weekend program – now has about 115 students, children and adults.

  • The Part-Time Hifzh Program – a part-time weekday program – now has about 25 students.

  • The Hifzh School – a full-time Qur’an memorization school – now has about 30 full time students and 3 full time teachers.

  • Over the past years, 22 students (15 boys and 7 girls) have completed the memorization of the entire Qur’an at Dar-us-Salaam Qur’an Programs.

  • Many of these students lead Taraweeh in the various Masaajid in the area

Expansion

Since the Qur’an Programs are now well established, we are ready to now expand our operations all over the Washington Metropolitan area Insha Allah.

By the mercy of Allah, we started our first branch in Montgomery County this summer of 2008.  We had a successful semester at a local private school, Alhamdulillah.  We will now be offering classes during the 2008-2009 school year also.  Please look at our calendar for more details about beginning and end dates of the different semesters during this year.
