For ages 8 and above. A structured environment for the memorization of the Quran, while at the same time offering fun activities for our youth! June 23, 2008 - August 1, 2008 June 23 - August 1, 2008 (six weeks) 9 a.m. - 3.15 p.m. (Mon - Thu) 9 a.m. - 2.15 p.m. (Friday)
Purpose
The purpose of the Intensive Hifzh Camp is to help students who have reached proficiency (fluency and accuracy) in reading Qur’an, to focus primarily on the memorization of the Quran while burning their summer energy with sports and field trips. This program will also be a good opportunity for those who intend to join the Full Time Hifzh School at Dar-us-Salaam to experience the benefits and challenges of full time memorization before committing themselves during the regular school year.Classes
1. Qur’an Memorization: This will be the main focus of the camp. Students will spend approximately three to four hours in a Qur’an Memorization Class. At the beginning of the camp, the student and teacher will agree on a goal for the whole camp. This goal will be based on how much the student has memorized already and how much they are capable of memorizing each day. The students will first begin an overall review of all that they have memorized in the past. Afterwards, they will begin memorization of newly assigned portions. Each will be assigned a portion to memorize each day.
Pre-requisite for this class: The student must be able to read the Quran fluently and accurately prior to being accepted in this class. Before the beginning of the camp, there will be a placement test where students will be placed in the Intensive Hifzh Camp or the Quran Reading Camp. Placement tests will be conducted on 3 different days:
Wednesday, June 11: 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Saturday, June 14: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Wednesday, June 18: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
2. Memorization Review: In addition to memorizing new verses from the Qur’an, the students will also review what they have memorized previously from the Qur’an. This includes verses that they have memorized in the past (before joining the Intensive Hifzh Camp), as well as the verses that they will memorize during the camp.
3. Qur’anic Arabic: Part of learning the Quran and enjoying it involves understanding its meaning. This year we have planned to add a class to teach the meaning of the most frequent words of the Quran so that students can actually understand and enjoy what they are reading.
4. Sports: We understand that summer is a time where children are very energetic, and want to do fun activities. We hope that our Summer Camp will make this summer a very memorable summer for our beloved students. We will have some or all of the following activities during the summer camp and more, Insha Allah:
I. Basketball
II. Soccer
III. Football
IV. Track
V. Team Building
Field Trips
To make the experience enjoyable for our youth, we will conduct different field trips during the course of the camp. The field trips will be fun and exciting, and will help enhance the students’ Islamic understanding.Typically, the field trips will take place on Wednesdays, though this may change due to weather or scheduling reasons. To enhance this experience, we would appreciate if each parent can commit to volunteer as a chaperone on at least one of the Wednesdays. We would also appreciate if the parents can offer their vans/cars to transport students to the field trips. This will help reduce the costs of the field trips, make the trips safer for our students, and allow the parents to be closely involved in their child’s education.
