Teen Business – Starting Your Venture Before 20

Description Attendees ages 14 and above will spend 2 full days becoming introduced to business planning concepts and the application of these concepts to real-life business plans through team and individual activities and drills. The workshop will provide an overview of three stages of business planning life-cycle. The first stage is prior to starting a business, the second is the startup phase and the third is the operational stage of a small business. The workshop provides a systems perspective on the core areas of each of these phase. The instructor brings years of experience at small startups and has witnessed their growth to multi-billion dollars establishments. Workshop is a great “life-skills” experience for all attendees, even those who are not interested in business planning.


Purpose

Youth possess a phenomenal amount of motivation, vision and resilience. As they progress during the adolescence years they become natural entrepreneurs transforming into mature contributors and influencers within their networks. One of the best times in one’s life to venture into a business is the teen period, as one becomes ready to have an impact on society.

As Muslims, we have a very unique and special perspective on business compared to other groups in our society. This 2 day workshop brings together key elements of Islam and concepts of business planning to unleash the power of a young Muslim whose dream is to venture into a world of opportunities and attain Allah’s pleasure. It applies the Islamic perspective of work, give-back, outreach, business, capital, transactions, growth, diversity and planning to solutions for today’s problems.

Objectives

  1. Learn about the significance of the youth years and the uniqueness its brings as related to business planning
  2. Learn the fundamental reasons people start businesses and the Islamic perspective
  3. Learn how to identify a problem and develop a solution to it, and how to assess opportunities
  4. Learn about planning, growth, decision-making, innovation, marketing, operations, products/services, financials, business assets, staffing, strategy, mission, vision and leadership
  5. Learn about the elements of a successful business plan and critique real-life business plans
  6. Learn the activities associated with planning
  7. Learn about the various types of businesses and organizations
  8. Learn about former youth who started businesses and ventures
  9. Learn how to secure funding for a startup business
  10. Learn how to deal with customers, partners, supplies, investors and other stakeholders
  11. Learn how to manage a business and keep its operations running
  12. Learn how to exit from a business opportunity
  13. Develop a real full fledged business plan for an idea you have in mind
  14. Youth with successful and viable plans might be selected to meet with a committee to help realize their pls.

Pre-requisites:

9th grade High Schoolers or above
It is highly recommended that attendees bring their laptops to the workshop if available. (Limited number of computers might be available)

About the Instructor

These courses will be taught by Br Ayman Nassar.  Br Ayman Nassar, MSEE, PMP is a technology/engineering management consultant. He holds a Masters degree from Cairo University in Electronics and Communications. His experience covers the areas of project management, process development, product and service development and systems engineering. He is an adjunct faculty at Prince George's Community College teaching project management.
